Xes (Exes?)

I'm still not sure how to type the title. I edited this slightly since I showed it at a meeting a few months ago. Also, it's not exactly a poem...at the time I wrote it I was still in a band, and trying to write song lyrics. So the rhymes are wicked cliche but if you take it in the context of a song, it could be more forgivable...maybe?

he used to be a skinhead, tattooed Xes on his hands
he used to go to shows to see those hardcore bands
he used to get in fights to prove he was right
he used to survive on those endless nights

he used to spike his drinks so his friends wouldn't know
he still liked going to those hardcore shows
he used to empty his guts each night from the booze
he used to pick some fights he knew he would lose

he used to smoke some weed, but only on weekends
he used to hang with kids that were good for some tweakin
he fell out of touch with those hardcore fans
he used to paint over the Xes on his hands

he used to shoot a little just to give it a try
he used to up the dose to recapture the high
he used to say the drugs gave him what his life lacked,
he got some more tattoos so he could cover the tracks

he used to go to clinics 'cause he wanted to quit
he used to call his dealer for just one more hit
he used to say he'd die before he got old
but when he scored a good job he gave the drugs up cold

now him and the suits go out to the bar
to talk big business, big money, big cars
but he still sees the posters for those hardcore bands
and his cuffs don't fully cover up the Xes on his hands.

I think Xes as a title is better than Exes because the latter connotes ex-relationship. Plus you use Xes throughout the poem/song to refer to them so you would have continuity there.
